High-reach vacuum clearing carried out from ground level where access and site conditions allow, with camera inspection and completion evidence where practicable. Covering Bolton and the wider North West, including Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire.
The problem
Gutters fill from above and below at once: leaf litter from overhanging trees, and moss washed down off the roof covering every time it rains hard. Silt binds it together and the run stops draining long before it looks full from the ground.
The water then goes over the front edge of the gutter instead of down the pipe. That is where the dark streaks down render and brickwork come from, and it is why water starts tracking into fascias, soffits and the top of the wall.
Clearing the gutter is only useful if the water can actually get away, so accessible downpipe entries and hopper heads are checked for visible blockages and flow where appropriate. A clear gutter feeding a blocked downpipe still overflows.
This is debris removal, not repair work. Cracked joints, failed seals, incorrect falls, damaged brackets, defective downpipes and underground drainage faults are reported rather than fixed, and washing the outside of gutters, fascias and soffits is a separate service.
Gutter clearing removes moss, leaf litter and silt from gutters, hoppers and the head of downpipes so rainwater can get away from the building instead of over the edge of the gutter.
Much of the work is done from ground level with a high-reach vacuum system and camera, where gutter height, property layout and site conditions allow. Some sections may need a different access method.
Our method
The property, gutter height, surrounding access and ground conditions are assessed before work begins. Any limitations or visible defects are discussed with the customer.
Accessible gutter sections are inspected using a camera where practicable to identify leaves, moss, silt and other loose debris.
Suitable gutter sections are cleared using a high-reach vacuum system from ground level where access and site conditions allow.
Accessible downpipe entries are checked for visible obstruction and water flow where appropriate. Sealed, damaged or underground drainage faults may require separate investigation.
Accessible gutter sections are checked after clearing and completion images or camera evidence are provided where practicable.

What affects your quotation
Every quotation is prepared for the property in front of us. Tell us the surface, rough size and access and we will confirm the method and the price.
Guide prices
Gutter clearing starts from £75. The figures below are starting and typical guide ranges for properties in Bolton and the surrounding area — they are not universal fixed prices. A written quotation confirms the method and price before any work is carried out.
Price depends on the number and length of the runs, storey height and access, how much debris has built up, the downpipes and outlets involved, and whether gutter, fascia and soffit cleaning is added.
Clearing is carried out from ground level with a high-reach vacuum and camera where access and site conditions allow. Runs that cannot be reached safely that way are discussed before work begins.
Surface care
Being straight with you
Where a surface would genuinely benefit from protection once it is clean and dry, ask about exterior surface sealing.
Before we start
The right method for the surface, not simply more pressure. Before anything is switched on we look at what we are actually cleaning: the material, the contamination on it, the condition it is already in, and whether there is cracking or earlier repair work that needs treating carefully.
We also check the practical side. An outside tap is preferred so we do not have to run hoses through your home; where an indoor tap is needed, we agree a safe hose route, take the hose out carefully and keep the connection monitored and secure. The water flow affects how quickly our equipment or water tank refills. Access, nearby walls and render, planting and delicate areas are all noted so they can be protected or worked around.
If there is no outside tap, it helps to mention it when you enquire. It is easily worked around, but it is better known in advance than found on the morning.
Photographs and existing damage
We often photograph the area before we begin — sagging or leaking gutter runs, loose brackets and staining down the wall. It gives an honest record of the property's condition, and it gives you a genuine before-and-after comparison once the work is finished.
If we find a defect, we would rather point it out than quietly clean over it. We will show you what we have found, adjust the method around the weaker area where that is sensible, and if continuing could do more harm than good we will stop and talk it through. Sometimes the right advice is to have another suitable tradesperson look at it first.
We would rather work carefully around a problem than knowingly make it worse.
What to expect
Cleaning can make a very large difference, but it cannot undo age. Weathering, worn surfaces, permanent staining, previous repairs and colour variation may still be visible afterwards. What we aim for is the best sensible improvement from the existing surface, and we will say so before we start if we think the result will be limited.
If the debris filling the gutters is moss coming off the tiles, the roof itself may be the underlying issue. See roof cleaning and moss removal.

Local service area
Bolton is our base, so most gutter clearing we carry out is within a short drive of the town. We clear gutters in Harwood, Bromley Cross, Egerton, Bradshaw, Heaton, Lostock, Horwich, Westhoughton, Smithills and Blackrod, where mature trees and heavy roof moss tend to fill runs quickly through autumn and winter.
Property types vary locally, from newer estate housing with straightforward UPVC runs to older stone and terraced properties with higher or awkward elevations, and each affects whether a run can be reached safely from ground level. We also cover the wider Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire area, so if you are just outside those towns, ask and we will tell you honestly whether we can schedule it sensibly.
Where we work
We cover Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and the wider North West for homes and commercial premises of every type, with most gutter clearing enquiries coming from Bolton and the towns around it, listed below. Check the towns we cover or ask if you are just outside them.
